Gwen Norton draws inspiration for her photography from her international travels as well as places close to home. Her award-winning images focus on varied environments which stir unexpected emotions. Her practice spans an endless number of subjects. She inherited her passion from her father Alton Adams whose recently-discovered home photos demonstrate his enthusiasm for photography. Since she was a girl, Gwen recalls “always holding a camera.” In 2013, through the tutelage of internationally renowned fine art photographer Alison Shaw, Gwen delved into her craft. She started shooting digital, but she has recently started to also shoot with film. “I slow down, expose and compose without immediate feedback,” she says, “and, of course, there is the magic of printing in the darkroom.” She lives in New York City and on Martha’s Vineyard with husband Peter Norton.
Gwen's most recent work is documenting decampment and abandonment in various communities.
